  11. I would like to answer #3.
So many new ideas come from the coffee houses and salons because when the ideas take form in the hunch state they somehow have to create a system that allow hunches to come together and turn into something bigger than some of their parts. Therefore coffee houses and salons allow people to let their ideas mingle, swap and create new forms.

  15. My answer to question #3: Since good ideas normally come from the collision between smaller "hunches", many new ideas historically came from coffee houses and salons where ideas of more than one person could mingle, swap, and created new forms.

  16. My answer to question #1: A "hunch" is what each of us has in our own mind, and a "breakthrough idea" is made up of those hunches collided with each other. Therefore, a breakthrough idea would be much bigger and more innovative than a hunch.

The reason why at the coffee houses or the salons was that people could get ideas mingle, swap, and create new forms.
That's because when you'd like to be creative and get good ideas, you need the collision between smaller hunches.

  27. To Q1

A hunch is something each of us has in our mind. It's like a seed of idea. A breakthrough is the collision between such hunches. And it's more powerful than just the sum of each hunch. I believe it's true to see many Nobel prizes go to groups of scientists.

It's because interactions among people inspire lots of ideas you have not imagined so as to result in an invention of new idea. coffee houses and salons are places of that kind.
